Location

On the N-340 heading towards Castelló, shortly before kilometre 1072, turn right onto the Mata-redona path and follow it to the Cocó de Jordi, where there is a car park. From this point a signposted path leads to la Foradada; the route via the Font de Burgar is about 4 km, while the other alternative is less than 3 km.

The cavity is located inside la Foradada, so by entering from its NW side you are in Freginals, while on the SE side you are in Alcanar. Taking into account that the municipal boundary passes along the SE side of la Foradada, the cavity lies within the municipality of Freginals.

Description

Morphology

Inside la Foradada del Montsià on its W side, the mouth opens, approximately 1 metre in diameter; this gives access to a descending ramp that places us in a chamber of about 8x8 metres with a maximum height of just over 2 metres; at the foot of the back wall there is a small pit of 0.85 metres collapsed with stones.

Other details

Because it is a place much frequented by hikers, inside the cavity we find all kinds of rubbish, drink cans above all, plastic bags etc.; the idiots must think there is a rubbish collection service inside.

History

Certainly known for a long time by those who know the Montsià well. We already have news of a visit by members of the GES-CMB in April 1968 and we also had references from the 1970's from colleagues of the Grup Espeleològic d'Ulldecona.
