Avenc de l'Auferí

Avenc de l'Auferí

Avenc de 36 metres de fondària a Margalef.

Margalef • Priorat96m36m

A 36-metre-deep pit in Margalef, explored by the SAS of the CGB in 1967.

Characteristics

Location

From the picnic area of the Margalef reservoir, you must go to the bridge that crosses the reservoir, just after the outlet of the barranc de la Taverna, and follow the path parallel to the reservoir for about 400 m, where we will find on our right a turnoff that climbs directly towards the area of l'Auferí. It should be said that the first 300 m of the climb are very steep and with little visibility due to the vegetation, although afterwards it is somewhat flatter, while making out ahead a hill where almost at its summit most of the cavities are found.

You must climb up to a ridge where we will already see on the other slope the upper part of one of the barrancs de la Taverna. We will continue ascending towards the aforementioned hill (915 m) and once at the summit we descend a few metres in a NE direction and soon find a long diaclase split on one side by blocks forming two entrances. From the old descriptions we have, everything suggests that it is the Avenc de l'Auferí.

Description

Morphology

A fissure 12 metres long by 1 wide forms a narrow pit partially obstructed by blocks. At -15 metres it reaches the ceiling of a room with a perpendicular development. This room presents a pronounced slope of debris down to the lowest point, where it becomes flat and communicates with a small lower chamber, from which a narrow final pit of -4 metres emerges.

History

Explored by the SAS of the CGB on 29 January and 4 March 1967.
