Avenc d'Ancosa

Avenc d'Ancosa

Històric avenc de 26 m. de fondària a la Llacuna, (Anoia)

Llacuna, La • Anoia50m26m

Historic 26 m deep pit in La Llacuna, Anoia, first explored in 1907 by the Club Muntanyenc.

Characteristics

Location

From the town of La Llacuna we will go to the nearby hamlet of Torrebusqueta and from there we must take a track that climbs up to the coll del Corral and follow it in a SW direction until we reach the ruins of a project for a medieval Cistercian convent right in the middle of the Plana d'Ancosa; very close by there is also a corral. Following the most worn track without leaving the SW direction, after about 400 metres the camí de la Plana Roja comes out on the left, which we must follow, and a few metres from it, on the left, the depression of the pit can be seen.

Description

Morphology

The entrance opens in a small depression about 5 metres in diameter that seems to correspond to an ancient absorption feature. The shaft, 20 metres deep, displays a good sample of wall formations, giving rise to a narrowing of the section a few metres before reaching the bottom. At its base a descending gallery begins which soon widens considerably and also gains height thanks to its junction with a chimney about 20 metres high by about 6 wide. At the end of this chamber, the gallery drops suddenly and becomes a low, narrow passage where, after a few metres, the cavity ends.

Speleothems

The shaft displays a good sample of wall formations.

History

The first exploration of the Avenc d'Ancosa represents the beginning of the speleological activities carried out by the then recently founded Club Muntanyenc. At the suggestion of the landowner, Jaume Bages, of Can Casota, and with material provided by Lluís Marià Vidal, they set out on 11 August 1907. The first to descend was Faura i Sans, followed by Có de Triola, Josep Colomines, Pau Obiols and many of the rest of those accompanying the outing.
