Characteristics

Location

We leave Serradell heading west along a path that runs along the side until we reach the pool from which the village's water is drawn; along the way we keep coming across the black hose.

From the pool we have to head up a small channel where on the left we find the entrance of the Forat la Bou, approximately some 15 minutes from Serradell.

Just before reaching the entrance, we must leave the channel on the right and climb up some stony ramps. We keep coming across a few cairns, we head left and upwards below a cliff until we cross the channel on the left of the Bou.

We climb up the other side and at the foot of the wall is the entrance; there is also a rock shelter that cannot be seen until you reach it, as it is covered by scrub.

Description

Morphology

A short gallery brings us to the upper part of a room measuring 40x20x20 metres. From this room open some short galleries, full of sediments. The wall of the room opposite the entrance gallery is formed by a large flowstone that descends from the ceiling; once we are at the upper part of this flowstone (+26.4 metres), it allows us to explore two hanging galleries. One of them is the via Mora, formed by a straight gallery 46.5 metres long, which narrows along its course until it becomes impenetrable. The other is the via de Dalt, formed by two entry crawls that connect with some stepped rooms and with various small galleries. The total drop is 46.5 metres (-28.3/+18.2) and the length is 284.8 metres.

History

Although it is already cited in the Recull Espeleològic de Catalunya by Faura from the year 1909, as well as in the excursions carried out in 1910 and published in 1911, these did not visit it, since on 27 August 1910 Faura, Jeannel Racovitza and Rocafort limited themselves to visiting the Forat Negre, the Forat La Bou, l'Espluguell and the cova de Sorta.

The first exploration was carried out by the ERE of the CEC in 1960.

In 1992 the SIE of the CEA, over the course of 5 days, between 16 February and 17 May, carried out various climbs with the help of a pole, managing to explore some new galleries located in the upper part of the other side of the room.
