Grotte di Benifallet

Benifallet, a municipality in Baix Ebre, has 14 catalogued cavities: 5 pits and 9 caves. The total catalogued length is 1604 m and the maximum depth is 23 m. The recorded lithologies are limestone (12) and dolomite (2).

The longest cavities are Cova Marigot, at 546 m, and Cova Meravelles, at 510 m; also listed are Cova del Dos, at 253 m, and Cova de l'Aumidiella Gran, at 144 m. As for depth, Cova Marigot reaches 23 m, followed by Cova del Dos with 16 m, Avenc del Sifó with 15 m, Avenc de la Fita with 11 m and Avenc del Barranc d'aixeca with 10 m.

Among the pits is Avenc del Cataclisme, with a semicircular entrance of 1.2 x 0.9 metres, a chamber of 8 x 9 metres and 1.5 metres in height, discovered and explored by the GIE – CE Gràcia in July 1969.
