Characteristics

Location

From Llavorsí you must turn off onto the L-510 road towards Alins and continue to Àreu, la Forca d'Àreu continuing along the dirt track to the pla de la Farga, where you must park the car. Cross the pont de la Farga and continue on foot along the dirt track, marked with roe deer tracks (corresponding to the Itinerari Forestal de la Rebuira). We leave the bordes de la Farga and de Bués on the right. The path climbs between the forest, with zigzags and soaked by the water of the barrancs de la Llena and de la Llaguna. After 20 minutes we pass the mirador del Roc de la Llena.

Once at the borda del Nasi de Castellarnau, the first one encountered of the bordes de la Rebuira, a path starts behind it that climbs westwards up the slope in a gentle ascent. A vertical drop of 90 metres must be overcome to reach the cavity. After a few minutes a stone bank must be climbed and you continue parallel to another one on the lower side. After 13 minutes a wire fence for livestock is passed. After 23 minutes you enter the pla de la Campella. At once the remains of the borda de la Campella are found. Two minutes further on, at the edge of the barranc de la Llena, there is a large rock under which the forat de la Campella is hidden. To access it you must go around the rock on the north side, very carefully.

Description

Morphology

Very hidden entrance of 1.26 by 0.74 metres that gives way to a small gallery of about 3 metres that is intercepted by another larger one. From this junction, if we go to the left we have a gallery of about 3 metres of passage, 2.20 high and an average width of 0.5 metres. This gallery has a chimney that leads to the outside 4 metres higher up, but it is not accessible due to its narrowness.

Continuing along the entrance gallery, from the junction, we find a descending fissure about 3 metres long but which is impenetrable due to its narrowness. If we turn right there is a corridor 6.5 metres long and 2 high, where a small ramp leads us to a small pit of 2.2 metres. The gallery, without descending the pit, continues a few more metres without any continuation. If we descend the pit, to the right and going down a 2 metre step we find a gallery 1 metre wide and 4 high that ends after 6 metres of passage.

If we go to the left, we soon find a 2.4 metre step, here, the straight gallery turns suddenly to the right to end at the head of a 10 metre pit. At its bottom the fracture continues, if we go back, through a narrow passage we come to a small room of about 5 metres. If we continue, the width of the joint is 0.20 metres and descending a ramp we reach the end of the cavity.

The total vertical drop is 19 metres (- 16; + 3).

Other details

The authors of the record indicate that the cavity is excavated in non-carbonate metamorphic rocks of Cambro-Ordovician age. Until the specific lithology can be more precisely determined we place it in schists.

History

The first exploration took place on 12 April 2008 by members of the Grup d'Espeleologia de Badalona who had news of a cavity that had been used as an ossuary in this area so unfavourable to the presence of speleological phenomena.

Its publication was planned in no. 28 of the magazine CAVERNES (GEB), but finally a complete record was published in the first volume of the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya, that same year 2008.
