Description
Morphology
This phenomenon called Les Esquerdes is formed by two large parallel fractures elongated from N to S. Although the main route is aerial, different cavernous sectors can be found in them.
The first one we come across, coming from the avenc d'en Llosa, is formed by a short drop of just over 2 metres that continues in several descending twists for some 10 metres until it becomes very narrow. Towards the N, at the start of the first large esquerda and by means of a short drop we find another cave 8 metres long. This first esquerda, 20 metres long and some 3 metres wide, does not exceed 4 metres in depth and is full of vegetation, and at its N end we find an accumulation of large blocks; at the end of these one can reach a third small cave 15 metres long that turns at different angles of 90º until it becomes very narrow.
The second esquerda is no more than 6 metres west of the first, it is shorter and narrower (30 metres long by barely 1 metre wide), the depth does not exceed 3 metres and the only cavernous zones are found in a hole in the form of a small pit of scant development in the middle of the esquerda and a small cave at the S end 6 metres long.
The approximate total length of the sum of the different concavities is some 40 metres.
History
Known since the explorations in the area by members of SIRE – UEC Olesa de Montserrat during the year 1965, but they had remained practically unpublished until, during the work carried out in the area by members of SIS – CE Terrassa in the years 1985 and 1986, they were explored and surveyed.
In 2011 they were located again by members of GE Badalona and of SECEM de Manresa who, because the previous data had not yet been published, catalogued them as cavities 3, 4 and 5 of the Puig de Cassot.
