Esparreguera • Baix Llobregat 17m 11m

Small pit 11 m deep in the serra del Cairat, in Esparreguera, with a reduced entrance and difficult location.

Characteristics

Location

In the serra del Cairat, east of the coll de Cassot, on the slope of the torrent de Sant Salvador, in Esparreguera.

From l'Escletxa de les Cotorres one must follow the cliff downwards and, at no more than 20 metres, move about 10 metres towards the west to find the entrance of this pit, in the form of an earthy hollow surrounded by tree roots.

Approximate coordinates and difficult location. The topography section includes a map prepared by Xavier Badiella on which most of the cavities in the area are located and which may help in its location.

Description

Morphology

The entrance is quite reduced, half a metre in diameter, and gives way to a 5-metre shaft.

Progression

At the base of the 5-metre shaft one can continue towards the S through a very narrow fissure for only about 3 metres. In the opposite direction, and thanks to a short step, one can descend among a pile of stones embedded in the wall until reaching the point of maximum depth (level – 11).

History

Possibly known to the members of the SIRE – UEC Olesa de Montserrat, but we have no news of this cavity until the explorations in the area by the SIS del CE de Terrassa in 1986.
