Characteristics

Location

About 5 km along the BV-4243 road that climbs to Rasos de Peguera, an asphalted track towards Castellar del Riu begins; we follow it for 1.8 km; at this point, on our right, there is a sign where we turn off onto a forest track in good condition for 1.4 km until reaching Castellar del Riu.

We continue along the track, now in worse condition, to the right of the houses, for 1.4 km in a westerly direction, towards the Grau de l'Olivell; 300 m before the track ends, already close to the Grau de l'Olivell, we must head north and climb through the forest for about 160 m of elevation gain until reaching a first line of cliffs; we will overcome these more easily at their north-eastern end in a wide wooded gully of about 30 m of elevation gain; immediately at the upper level of the gully and at the base of the second line of cliffs is l'Escletxa.

Description

Morphology

Access to the cavity is via a large fissure in the cliff, 3 m wide on average and open to the sky; after 18 m of passage and a steep drop of 11 m, the cavity proper would begin.

The entrance porch, 19 m high and of considerable width, gives access, acting as a distributor, to the different chambers of the cavity.

From the distributor in a northerly direction, the cavity has two superimposed galleries, both separated in turn by respective ledges, the upper one being the larger in width and length; the upper gallery has two chimneys at its end, the first of which reaches the greatest height of the cavity.

From the distributor and in an easterly direction, there is a balcony about 3 m above the rest of the chamber; a narrow passage at the balcony allows access to a small chamber which in turn communicates with the outside through a small concretion-covered conduit.

In a north-easterly direction the cavity loses height and slope; we pass beside some large blocks until a final chamber with a low ceiling, in which there are two impenetrable fissures blocked by boulders where a certain air current is noticeable.

Speleothems

A small concretion-covered conduit connects the small chamber with the outside.

History

The known reference of which we have record is the exploration carried out in June 2016 by members of the Centre Excursionista de Castellar del Vallès, in which they also surveyed the cavity.
