An 11-metre-deep cavity near the Pla de la Corba (Castellar del Riu), reported by mushroom foragers to members of the ERE – CEC and the SIE – CEA on 21 September 2013.

Characteristics

Location

From the city of Berga we take the BV-4243 road towards the Rasos de Peguera ski resort; on reaching kilometre 9.14 and at a right-hand bend, we take a track on the left of the road that is closed with a chain.

We follow the track past the Plans de la Corba until we reach the height of the ruins of the house of la Corba; once past it, the track makes a sharp turn to the right. From this point we follow it for 115 metres, where we turn off to the left through the middle of the forest in a southerly direction, where after 25 metres we find the mouth of the cavity covered with branches and a kind of protective fence made with plastic cord (2013 data).

Description

Morphology

The earthy mouth, 1.07x0.53 metres, situated at the foot of a pine tree, gives access to a wide shaft 2.68 metres deep. The sloping base leads us to a new shaft of 4.87 metres, where below an enormous block we reach a new drop divided into two sections totalling 3.21 metres. At this point we find a chimney 6.13 metres high.

The gallery continues sloping for 3 metres until we reach a junction; straight ahead, the gallery continues for 3.50 metres with a height of 0.67 metres, which gradually decreases until it becomes impenetrable. Back at the junction, to the right we find a gallery 1.66x2.06 metres high and 4 metres long that intercepts a perpendicular gallery 6.25 metres long, with a width of 1.11 metres and 1.25 metres high.

History

Reported by mushroom foragers to members of the ERE – CEC and the SIE – CEA on 21 September 2013, and its exploration and survey were carried out. We have no previous reference to this cavity and we do not know whether it had been explored, although inside it there was no sign or trace of any previous exploration.
