Grallera de Cambrils

Avenc de 31 m. de fondària a la serra d'Odèn, (Solsonès)

Odèn • Solsonès52m31m

A 31 m deep pit in the Serra d'Odèn, in the Solsonès, first explored on 1 May 1964 by members of EDES, EDECA, ERE-CEC and CE Pirenaic.

Characteristics

Location

On the L-401 road from Llinars to Alinyà, once past the coll de Boix, a track comes out on the right that climbs up to the coll de Veça and continues along the whole N slope of the Tossal de Cambrils. After 6.5 kilometres from its start, on the left, there are the corrals del Sastre and a little further on, on the same track, there is a vertical wooden post where the signs have disappeared. At this point, some 50 metres to the right of the track is the large mouth of the grallera.

Description

Morphology

Mouth open in the middle of an area of bare rock, oriented E15S-O15N, 10 x 3.5 metres. A 19 metre deep shaft that deviates towards the S as it widens. The bottom and a small ledge at -13 metres are usually covered by a residual deposit of snow. The floor, occupied by snow and clastic materials, is formed by a ramp that descends towards the S while the ceiling drops abruptly after a short distance to 2 metres from the floor, where it will form the ceiling of the final chamber, 14 metres long by 4 metres wide and about 3 metres high. The floor decreases in slope until it is almost flat. At the bottom there is a small floor crypt formed by decalcification clay and organic matter. From the base of the shaft the ramp gains 12 metres to the bottom of the chamber, reaching a depth of 31 metres.

Small local cavity with the lower chamber structured on an N-S joint and a shaft opened on a perpendicular joint (O15N).

The original shaft has undergone considerable modifications of form due to parietal clastic processes, especially located on the S wall, which have given rise to two stepped ceilings at -5 and at -15, helped by the important fissuring of the rock, especially observable from -15 to the mouth of the lower chamber. The lower chamber also presents clastic morphology (parietal collapse of small blocks, uniformly).

Speleothems

The floor presents stalagmites of ice of scant development at the entrance of the chamber.

History

Within one of the extensions of the Operació Solsonès, members of EDES, EDECA, ERE-CEC and CE Pirenaic explore the cavity for the first time on 1 May 1964.
