Location

On the BV-5115 road heading towards Gualba and shortly before kilometre 5, we find a roundabout which we will leave by the left (2nd exit), we will follow the road which soon stops being asphalted, until we find the crossroads with the road that goes to Campins, we will continue straight on along the track (from this point the circulation of vehicles is prohibited), following the main track we arrive at a quarry, the track makes a sharp bend and continues climbing in the direction of the quarries of l'Americano, shortly before arriving there we find a crossroads, we will continue along the track on the left, the cavity is located on the left-hand part of the track shortly after passing the crossroads and before arriving at the Forat nº 2 de les Pedreres. Description

Morphology

It is formed by a ramp of blocks and a small step where the cavity ends. The depth is 5.30 metres.

History

In 1973, members of the SIRE-UEC de Gràcia explore a small cavity in the Gualba area, which they name avenc de les Pedreres. A long time later, in 1993, members of the GES-CM de Terrassa discover not far from that one another cavity which at first sight presented a little more interest, despite its reduced dimensions; it was the Forat de les Pedreres nº 2.

Since the Montseny massif, given its lithology, is not very prolific in underground cavities and since the situation of these pits, close to working quarries, may mean that sooner or later they disappear, in 1995 members of the SIE-CEA went with the directions provided by Jaume Claverí (GES-CMT), who take the opportunity to visit it and make the corresponding survey. During the excursion, they were still able to locate a third cavity of even more reduced dimensions; it was the Forat nº 1 i 1/2 de les Pedreres.
