Description
Morphology
A cave-like entrance and a short ramp give way to a 7.40-metre shaft that leads into a chamber of regular dimensions. Towards the E, and after a short step up, it remains filled with sediments; towards the W, it continues with a descending ramp full of blocks about 10 metres long. Almost at its end point there is a small shaft between blocks, the bottom of which is the deepest point of the pit. It is curious to observe in the chamber that one of the walls is made of marble, while the other is granite.
Speleothems
The lithogenic formations were relatively abundant, but they are very damaged due to the destructive action of visitors.
Other details
Prior permission is required to visit these installations. We believe that new authorisations will hardly be obtained for safety reasons that the company documents conclusively. Therefore, this note does not constitute a recommendation to visit, on the contrary it is a statement of the practical difficulty of exploring the documented underground cavities, and the need to agree any intervention beforehand with AYMAR.
History
In 1973, members of the SIRE-UEC de Gràcia explore a small cavity in the Gualba area, which they call avenc de les Pedreres. Much later, in 1993, members of the GES-CM de Terrassa discover not far from that one another cavity that at first sight presented a little more interest, despite its small dimensions; it was the Forat de les Pedreres nº 2. Since the Montseny massif, given its lithology, is not very prolific in underground cavities and since the situation of these pits, close to active quarries, may mean that sooner or later they disappear, in 1995 members of the SIE-CEA went with the directions provided by Jaume Claverí (GES-CMT), who take the opportunity to visit it and make the corresponding survey. During the excursion, they were still able to locate a third cavity of even smaller dimensions; it was the Forat nº 1 i 1/2 de les Pedreres.
