Forat d'Alós

Forat d'Alós

Petit avenc de 10 metres de fondària proper al pic de Peguilla (Alt Àneu).

Alt Àneu • Pallars Sobirà22m10m

Small pit 10 metres deep near the Pic de Peguilla, in the upper valley of Isil (Alt Àneu).

Characteristics

Location

It is in the upper valley of Isil that the waters of the Noguera Pallaresa begin their course. From this valley, and to reach France, there is the well-known pass through the Port de Salau. A historic passage during the exile. Near the col and heading E-SE, a path branches off that leads to the Pic de Peguilla along its S slope. And it is in that direction, at 2190m above sea level, that we find the cavity.

Description

Morphology

Small pit 10 metres deep. The first chamber is reached by a downclimb. The first chamber, descending, leads to an impenetrable bedding plane, and through a passage between blocks and bedrock we manage to descend to the lower level, where a small gallery ends in a very flat floor with animal bone remains.

Progression

Small pit where the use of ropes is not necessary. The first chamber is reached by a downclimb. The first chamber, descending, leads to an impenetrable bedding plane, and through a passage between blocks and bedrock we manage to descend to the lower level, where a small gallery ends in a very flat floor with animal bone remains.

History

Taking advantage of the fact that Bernat Jorba was a regular in Alós d'Isil, we took a walk around the Salau area on a foggy day when the bad weather held us back from doing a route in the marimanha massif... That was quite a few years ago now, though... When we found this cavity we noted the existence of previous visits (remains of a glass bottle). Searching the bibliography and talking with Catalan cavers who have worked in the area, it turned out to be a hole unknown in the collective memory. We decided to name it Forat d'Alós. The first day we did not have the tools to carry out a complete exploration or to make a proper survey. So, in order to explore it as it required, we kept postponing it... On 17 June 2011, however, Bernat Jorba died from a complication of his delicate heart. So the work of surveying the hole was incomplete. As soon as it was possible for us, with Eric Solé, a good Andorran, we went up again towards Alós and took the opportunity to locate, survey and begin writing what will be the memory we have left of the “Forat d'Alós”. This is one more chapter that we want to leave written after having been able to live so many moments in the mountains, in the caves, climbing... with Bernat. We therefore want to pay our particular tribute by publishing the surveys and a brief account of the place where we will find this pit.
