Matadepera • Vallès Occidental5m0

Small caves above the camí de la font Soleia, in Sant Llorenç del Munt, known as the Foradades de la Soleia.

Characteristics

Location

Following the camí de la Font Soleia, just after leaving the Sardineta, when you reach the first large wall below where the path passes, at the end of it and on a ledge of the crag, some small holes can be made out. They are located at the end of the Paret Gran, on the crag that comes after a short, narrow and straight channel, sometimes equipped with a rope. Approximate coordinates and without the slightest precision.

Description

Morphology

The main gallery is formed by a gallery of 5 metres where one moves upright; to the left, through a short conduit, one reaches a small window from which another gallery hanging on the right can be observed. It is also curious to point out that the wall where this window opens has the curved shape of the old gallery that existed there, now dismantled by the retreat of the crag. A little more than 8 metres towards the N and at the same height, we observe two holes in one of which a fig tree grows. Both are of little development. It should also be mentioned that, on the wall of the crag, the mark of a dismantled gallery is clearly marked, which linked these holes with the previous ones and which continued much further towards the N.

Hydrology

Very close to the holes it is known that some hunters made a small pool to collect the water that trickles down from the Paret Gran. It is the font de les Àligues.

Progression

Access must be made with an impressive rappel, which if you are lucky and land on a holm oak growing at the mouth, can be accessed without further trouble.

Other details

The crags of the camí de la Soleia are full of shelters and small holes, many without a known name. Some of them form a small gallery, at the beginning of which it remains covered by a holm oak, now dead.

History

In 1987 they were surveyed and named Foradades de la Soleia by Xavier Badiella and Miquel Àngel Martínez (SIS - CET). But it is not the only name they receive. According to the testimony of historical hikers of Sant Llorenç del Munt, before the 50s these holes served as the site of nests of various birds. Some testimonies point out that, even, in their conduit a pair of eagles made their nest and, for this reason, they called them the Forats de les Àligues.

Bio

However, the former existence of an eagle nest in the small cavity has not been able to be confirmed by the biologists and bird watchers of the Parc Natural.
