Temporary spring with 8 metres of drop in the municipality of Gavet de la Conca, with an entrance at the base of a limestone stratum and a 4-metre small shaft that is impassable because the floor is full of pebbles.

Characteristics

Location

From the Pas Nou, if we head along the road to the Hostal Roig, about 100 metres before reaching the junction that leads to Sant Salvador de Toló, we will find on the left a limestone stratum that ends at the road, as well as the signs of a small stream that is normally dry. Following it for a few metres among the vegetation we will reach the limestone stratum where the cavity is found, more or less about 25 metres from the road.

Description

Morphology

The entrance opening is at the base of a stratum. A short inclined gallery leads us to a 4-metre small shaft.

Hydrology

It is a temporary spring. The stream that runs from the entrance is quite clearly the result of the passage of water.

Progression

A short inclined gallery leads us to a 4-metre small shaft, where it becomes impassable because the floor is full of pebbles.

History

According to data provided by the ERE of the CEC, this spring works every time the east wind blows. The owner of the Hostal Roig told us in the year 78 that he had never seen it gush, and that was despite being more than 70 years old. This statement is somewhat strange, since the stream that runs from the entrance is quite clearly the result of the passage of water.
