Characteristics

Location

Small pit 17 metres deep in the Montsec de Rúbies (Gavet de la Conca). From Vilanova de Meià we will approach via the Pas Nou, in the direction of the Hostal Roig; on reaching the crossroads of Sant Salvador de Toló – Hostal Roig, we will continue to the left along the asphalted road for 850 metres, where we will find on the right a track that climbs up to some cultivated fields. We will cross the fields until reaching their upper part; from here a path sets out that soon becomes a torrent; we will go up it for 200 metres; at this point we will observe to the W a small crag; we can choose to head towards it through the middle of the forest and climb it directly, or else continue up the torrent for some 50 metres until reaching the rocky area and go back 75 metres in a SW direction, along the upper part of the aforementioned crag. The cavity is found in the upper part of this small crag right next to the forest.

Description

Morphology

Small entrance of 0.70x0.75 metres with the floor on a slope, which in less than 2 metres drops us into a shaft of -15 metres depth; the shaft, at its point of maximum width, comes to have a diameter of 1 metre; it is structured on a very narrow joint of N-S direction. At 2.70 metres before reaching the bottom of the shaft, the joint widens slightly on the N side, this passage being very narrow and reserved only for especially slender physical constitutions. From this point 5 metres can be descended, coming to stand on a sloping and somewhat wider base.

Progression

The first exploration was carried out in August 1966 by members of the GIE of the Club Excursionista de Gràcia. Currently (2012), although quite worn, the painted inscription with the name of the cavity is preserved. The information given by the first explorers referred to an elongated entrance, with a shaft of -18 metres; in reality the entrance is 0.70x0.75 metres and the shaft is only -15 metres. We do not know whether there is any possible continuation from this point since, due to the narrowness before it, it has not been possible to gain access.
