Large fissure near the avenc de la Pipa, Mont-ral, open at both ends and with no references in speleological catalogues.

Characteristics

Location

From Mont-ral we will follow the camí de la Foradada, which passes through the Serrat de l'Avenc. Once past the avenc de l'Os, further on we will find a path on the right (ETRS89 X:339688; Y:4572438). We will follow this path for 250 metres; at this point, on the left of the path, we will find a depression in the terrain where, inside and close to the foot of the cliff, the avenc de la Pipa is located. Right at the end of this depression, on the left, we find a path that climbs between the pit and the wall of the cliff; we will soon reach the fissure and, just before entering it, on the right, we find the small cova de la Pipa.

Description

Morphology

Open-air fissure except for a small conduit under the blocks of the floor in the central part of the fissure. It is open at both ends. It has a width that does not exceed two metres.

Progression

Inside we find the wall on the cliff side equipped with “parabolds del 10 sense plaques”; we do not know whether it is a climbing route or for descending by rappel from the cliff side of the Serrat de l'Avenc.

History

A cavity for which no reference appears in the speleological catalogues. It was visited by Juli Serrano and Montse Roca (SIE-CEA) in January 2020; it was returned to again in July 2020 to carry out the cataloguing work. It is to be assumed that the fissure is known to climbers.

The fissure is located halfway between the avenc de la Pipa at one end and the cova dels Tions at the other; in the absence of any other reference in the toponymy of the area, it was decided to cite it with the names of both cavities as a reference.
