Characteristics

Location

On the TV-7044 road from La Riba towards El Pinetell, located at the parking area below the Campament Juvenil de La Riba, we will follow the road to kilometre 4.200; at this point we will turn left onto an uphill path that at 330 metres will take us to the Tres Pilars. Here we will continue left towards Castell Dalmau; at 590 metres from the road we will turn left towards La Riba; at 800 metres from the road we will turn left onto a faint trail that runs through a hollow that becomes more pronounced as we advance; at 950 metres from the road we will reach the Fou de Balet. The caves are on the right-hand wall just where there is a fissure in the cliff.

Description

Morphology

They open at the base and at the start of a high fissure, no. 1 to the left of it and no. 2 to the right, practically facing each other.

Cave No. 1: A small step of approximately 1 metre places us in a gallery on a downward ramp of about 9 metres in length where the cavity ends. It has a length of 9.60 metres and a drop of -4.5 metres.

Cave No. 2: A small narrow gallery on a slope with a block in the middle, it soon turns left; at the end of the ramp the gallery is choked in a small pothole between blocks. It has a length of 10.50 metres and a drop of -4.80 metres.

History

Cavities that are surely known since ancient times; in one of them there was a tree trunk to facilitate access. The Fou de Balet is already mentioned and described by Josep Iglesies in 1927.
