Description

Morphology

The cave consists essentially of a main gallery open to the outside through a vestibule currently washed by the sea and in which the remains of a fossil beach are still preserved. From this gallery four secondary corridors open in a S direction and two in an N direction, one of which, due to its dimensions, is second in importance to the main gallery. The cavity ends in a small sub-triangular chamber from which several small branches emerge.

Hydrology

In some of these galleries the sea is present inside the deposit, penetrating through different submarine openings.

History

Known since time immemorial. Neolithic materials have been collected. In the research carried out around the 1960s by Antoni Ferrer and other members of the Museu Biblioteca Víctor Balaguer de Vilanova i la Geltrú, they decided to name this cavity Cova Verda (Green Cave) because of the verdigris that grows inside it.
