Cova Nº2 dels Nerets

Important esquerda de 303 m. de recorregut a la zona del pantà de Sant Antoni (Talarn)

Talarn • Pallars Jussà303m28m

A 303 m fissure in the Sant Antoni reservoir area (Talarn), with a 3 by 6 m pit entrance 4 m deep, a 45 m main gallery and a junction of five galleries.

Characteristics

Location

It is located in the Sant Antoni reservoir area (Talarn).

To reach it, at km. 58.9 of the C-1412b / C.74 (Isona to Tremp) one must take a right-hand turnoff signposted 'Central FECSA – Nerets'. A few metres after entering and before crossing the Gavet canal, one must turn left to follow the track leading to les Ínsules, cross two bridges and leave on the left the track we were following towards les Ínsules and continue to the right to the end, where we will find a modern construction surrounded by fields. They must be followed in a NE direction to the end of the field where a path leads us to a stream that must be followed on the left until passing some blocks, the start of the platform where the group of fissures of els Nerets is found.

At the upper part of the platform, very visible and not far from the retaining wall that was built to divert the reservoir's spillway and direct the waters towards the lower ravine, is cave no. 1 and about 100 metres to the NW, very close to the cliff, this cave no. 2 is located.

Description

Morphology

The entrance forms a pit 3 by 6 metres and 4 deep, open at the NW end of the main gallery. This gallery, 45 metres long, is completely rectilinear towards the SE, of very high section and progressively narrowing. The floor is flat until at the final part, once the gallery is narrow, it descends considerably to the point where exploration through the middle part of the fissure is necessary, at a height that oscillates between 5 and 10 metres from the base, due to its narrowness. The gallery receives some branches developed along a network of fissures that take the single direction E15S – W15N. This is the direction the cavity now takes, to then after 14 metres reach the junction of five galleries, the longest of them continuing 12 metres in the original direction towards the SE. This crossing, having a little more width than the rest of the gallery, allows one to descend to its bottom where a new lower gallery is found.

Back at the entrance mouth, on the NE side there is a descent that, in the form of a stepped pit, reaches some superimposed lower levels, since gallery arms come out on either side, in the general direction E15S – W15N, which at the western end connect with two branches coming from cave no. 3, although the passage is impenetrable due to its narrowness.

History

During the month of October 1968, members of the SIE – CEA explored a whole series of fissures located beside the gate of the Talarn reservoir, naming them Cova-avenc de la Comporta no. 1, 2 and 3. These explorations are only recorded in a list of activities of the SIE from the year 1968 (EspeleoSie no. 6) and nothing more was ever heard of them.

Around the year 1979, members of the GES – CMB, during the research work for the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya, rediscovered the cavities, surveyed them and decided to name them with the place name of the area, els Nerets.
