Characteristics

Location

About 300 metres before reaching the village of Abella de la Conca, on the left, an asphalted track starts, asphalted for the first stretch, leading to can Xinco and cal Borrell. Shortly before reaching the private entrance of the latter, a turn-off branches to the right, passing close to cal Borrell; follow the track until reaching the hollow of the Portell, where there is a crossroads. From this point the mouth of the Cova nº 2 de les Collades (Cave no. 2 of les Collades) can already be seen on the cliff to the N. We will follow the track on the right that climbs towards the Portell de Gassó; after about 600 metres, on the left of the track, we find a space to leave the vehicle. From here we must climb up through the holm oak wood to the base of the cliff, where we will find a small terrace that allows us to reach the main mouth of the cave.

Description

Morphology

A mouth of 2.5X1.49 metres gives access to a chamber where there is a small opening onto the cliff; on the left we find a chamber 2 metres in diameter by 4.50 metres high. From the entrance chamber a descending passage runs, 3 and a half metres wide but only 0.35 metres high. The cavity has a drop of 7.5 metres (-3/+4.5), and a passage of 16 metres.

Speleothems

In the entrance chamber there are abundant calcite crystals, giving the impression that some quantity has been extracted.

Other details

The floor is absolutely full, over the entire extent of the cave, of excrement from some animal that must have had, or still has, its den in this cavity.

History

The ERE of the CEC located it in 2009, but it was not revisited to survey it until December 2015.
