Characteristics

Location

From La Pobla de Lillet we will take the road to Castellar de n'Hug and leave it to enter the Clot del Moro. Once past the Museu del Ciment, the road makes a sharp bend to the right, the point from which the track leading to the refugi d'Erols starts. Halfway along its route we will leave the car at a sharp bend to the right and continue on foot along a secondary track that follows a power line, with the torrent de Coll Roig on our left. About a hundred metres before the power line crosses the torrent, we will descend however we can to look for it. Once in its bed, we now face a steep climb up the other slope, with a steep gradient and no path, through a shady forest of beeches and pines with dense undergrowth of box trees, which we find completely defoliated by the action of the box tree moth, Cydalima perspectalis. Although it depends on where we climb, we will first reach the place where caves 2, 3 and 4 are located, at the foot of the crag. Cave-1 is about 15 m higher up, following the base of the crag in a steep climb.

Description

Morphology

The entrance is half blocked by a wedged block. It gives way to an ascending conduit with a steep gradient; the average inclination is 55 degrees. It is a narrow conduit, excavated in bare rock, which at its upper part narrows until it becomes impassable, reaching the level +11 m. Halfway up the main conduit we find two other horizontal conduits, which lead out to the crag, although the exit hole is very narrow. Total length, 22 m.

Progression

The average inclination of 55 degrees forces us to climb by scrambling.

History

The caves were discovered, some years ago, by Ramon Ricart, a former forest ranger and a good connoisseur of the mountains of northern Berguedà. It was Ramon himself who accompanied members of the ECM Barcelonès and the GE Badalona to the caves in order to carry out the studies and surveys for their cataloguing.

Bio

The dense undergrowth of box trees is completely defoliated by the action of the box tree moth, Cydalima perspectalis.
