Characteristics

Location

We leave the car in front of the municipal sports facilities of la Fanecada in Alcanar. We are on the Camí de Baix de les Planes, right in front of the Municipal Swimming Pool. On the other side of the street we see a large irrigation pond, the Bassa del Marqués.

We take the path that skirts it on its right until another path: the one of les Planes, which we take to the right in the direction of the village. We come to one of the main arteries of Alcanar, the Ronda, where we turn left on a gentle climb. Past a petrol station on the right and at a bend at the very exit of the village we see on the left a signposted entrance. It is the beginning of the Drecera, the path that the residents of Alcanar used to go on pilgrimage to the hermitage of el Remei.

We follow it upstream, first along a wide path but it ends up becoming a trail. At a signposted step is la Campaneta. They say that when they went to el Remei at this point they made the children believe that by putting their ear on a flat rock they would hear a little bell, but apparently not...

We continue climbing up to the Sagrat Cor de Jesús, a statue represents it and also marks the trail that now descends towards the hermitage. At this point we continue along the wide path on the left that will run along the ridge of the whole range in a W direction.

The path is wide, practically in its entirety it coincides with the old lligallo of the Capelleta del Remei. It passes close to some repeater stations to end at a large esplanade on a rounded hill: the Alcanar shooting range. Here we look for a shortcut that takes us down a few metres towards the S, to reach the Cova Grossa del Puig Gros.

Speleothems

The amusing touch are the “rock paintings”, quite contemporary, that can be observed there.
