Cova dels Mangotxos

The cave is located in the Roca-roja ravine, in Ulldecona, in the Montsià comarca.

Access: from the N-340 at the height of les Cases d'Alcanar, we go up the paved road in front of Can Conill, at the same entrance to les Cases, to the left of a closed furniture shop, heading towards the mountain range and with the Sant Jaume ravine on our left. We follow it for 1.14 Km to a crossroads where we can leave the car on a flat area.

From the car we follow the main track to the second entrance on the right that climbs towards the Racó de la Mina between plots of orange and olive trees. Almost at the bottom of the hollow we find a path on the right that we go up until the Serra de la Punta path, which we take to the left.

Just before a sharp bend to the left, and before a fairly steep area, we take a small path on the right marked with a cairn that takes us down to the bed of the small ravine, and on the other slope we already find the Cova Calitra.

To the right of the mouth one must look for a way to gain height, among old and steep olive terraces, sensing the best way to climb cross-country. The climb leads to the Bassot de Badoc, on the Moleta ridge, along which runs the path that climbs it. Follow the ridge path, to the right, and the remains of two little houses are also found on the right. We reach the crossroads with the lligallo de Roca Roja. On the left the povet del Navarro (known as de Badoc) and on the right the remains of the little house. Now we must follow the lligallo in the direction of Roca Roja, to the right.

At the col, we leave the remains of a large corral on the right and go up to the fork of the lligallo and the path to the Racó dels Mangotxos, marked with a large stone cairn, a boundary marker between municipalities.

To the left of the cairn, we come out onto the tip of a ridge that rises directly from the bottom of the Roca Roja ravine, and among old terraces, guided by a cairn and by the most obvious passages, we begin to lose height. A small broad terrace, like a threshing floor, that stands out in the middle of the descent serves as a reference. We continue descending and almost at the pines that we see at the bottom we begin to turn to the left to find the small ravine that we have parallel on the right. We must also look for a small cliff on the other side of the small ravine towards which we must head. Through a comfortable passage of a lost terrace we cross the ravine and climb a few metres to the foot of the small cliff where we find the also small but beautiful cova dels Mangotxos.
