Characteristics

Location

On the cingle de l'Abellera (Mont-ral). From Mont-ral we will follow the camí de la Foradada, continuing towards the portal de l'Abellera, and after passing the turn-off for the cova del Codó, at the UTM ETRS89 coordinates 338465-4571988 (914m.s.n.m.), we will climb the steep slope towards an enormous entrance visible on the right, hanging on the cingle. On reaching the foot of the cingle, instead of continuing to the right towards the large entrance, we must continue to the left, climbing the foot of the cingle until reaching the point where it turns to the NW, where we find a passage that allows us to continue along a ledge that will take us to the cave, thus overcoming the cingle that lies further down, above the camí de la Foradada to the portal de l'Abellera.

Description

Morphology

The entrance, about 20 metres wide by 10 metres high, gives way to a wide chamber 16 metres deep, with the floor sloping upwards. On the west side of the cave, at a height of about 5 metres, there are two parallel conduits about 2 metres in diameter, one of them beneath the visor formed by the cave's ceiling, while the other is already outside.

Hydrology

On the back wall a small temporary water inflow can be seen.

Progression

As we did not carry climbing equipment, it was not possible to access these conduits, which are pending exploration.

History

A cavity that we assume has been known since ancient times, probably used as a shelter by shepherds, since remains have been found that indicate this. The result of the search for information about the cave in Mont-ral has been nil, so we have chosen to cite it with the name of the cingle where it is located.
