Characteristics

Location

From km 9 of the BV-2122 road, within the town centre of Pontons, follow a track that climbs towards the Romanesque chapel of Sant Joan de la Muntanya and continue along it for 1,200 metres, and just past the Pedrallisa gully, follow to the left for about 60 metres to a vineyard, where we will leave the car. From here we will follow a wide path that leaves to our right and descends with a gentle slope. After 150 metres we must follow a narrow path that leads us to the cave, open at ground level, and located about 25 metres from the path, near the remains of a corralot.

Description

Morphology

An entrance 2.5 metres wide and 1.4 metres high, on a steep slope, gives access to a chamber 3 x 4 metres and a height of 2-2.5 metres. On the N wall, 1 metre above the level of the chamber, there is a crawlway that ends at 3.7 metres.

History

Sepulchral-type cavity, known since time immemorial and which apparently had been used as a hiding place during the civil war, a dry-stone wall having been put in place that sealed the entrance. Discovered by Antoni Masanell (from Vilafranca del Penedès) who, together with other amateurs, began excavating it in August 1947, finding lithic, ceramic and metal materials from the Neolithic, as well as various human remains, very mixed and deteriorated, of which only one skull could be studied. In February 1972 it was visited by members of the SIE – CEA who surveyed it (survey unpublished until now). Finally, in March 2014, members of the EC Gràcia and the GE Badalona updated the data of the cavity.
