Cave with a 22-metre passage at l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, with a 14x19-metre entrance and an ascending gallery of 11x8 metres.

Characteristics

Location

On the C-44 road from l'Hospitalet de l'Infant to Masriudoms, at km 3.710, on the left-hand side of the road there are two accesses to two tracks. Turning is prohibited; you must go as far as Masriudoms to turn and come back in the opposite direction, and enter by the first of the two aforementioned tracks. After 100 metres we will leave the vehicle and from the left-hand side of the track the PC-R 90 sets off, which we will follow to the Collet de Puntalt; from here we will follow the ridge in a N direction until we find the first turning to the left that will take us to the cave. The total route is about 2 kilometres.

Description

Morphology

Cave with a spectacular 14x19-metre entrance. Inside, the gallery on an ascending slope maintains dimensions of 11x8 metres; almost at the end and on the right-hand side we find a short gallery that ends in a small chamber of 3x1.50x3.45 metres.

History

A cavity quite well known since ancient times. Mentioned by Josep Iglésies and Joaquim Santasusagna in their hiking guide: Del Camp de Tarragona a l'Ebre (Reus, 1931), where it says that a thousand head of livestock had come to be enclosed there.

It also appears mentioned in the Catàleg Espeleològic de Catalunya Vol. 7 (1984), where only the same situation reflected in the hiking guide by Iglésies and Santasusagna is mentioned.
