Characteristics

Location

From the road from Sant Llorenç de Morunys to Solsona, in the Caseta neighbourhood, the path leading to the Santuari de Lord begins. Past the tunnel there is a path that descends towards the riera de Torroella and continues to the farmhouse of the same name, currently in ruins. From this point one must follow the path that runs above the rasa de Vilamala. The cova de les Esglesietes is found by continuing along this path, below the Sòbol farmhouse; one must pass through a point known as Mal Pas where there is a fixed rope serving as a handrail, but the anchors holding it leave much to be desired.

Description

Morphology

In this spot, at the foot of a cliff, there is a rock shelter about 20 metres long.

Speleothems

In one sector a large quantity of limestone concretions has formed, closing off the rock shelter and creating a small cave.

History

This is an archaeological site belonging to the Middle Bronze Age (-1500, -1200). In the floor of the rock shelter, in the open sector, numerous fragments of a large handmade ceramic vessel were found. In the place where it was found, abundant ashes can still be seen forming part of the sediment.
