Description

Morphology

Shelter with a variable height between 0.5 and 1 m, a maximum width of about 25 metres and a maximum depth of 10 metres on each side.

Progression

From the Hostal del Vent, located at kilometre 17.3 of the LC-4241 road from Solsona to Sant Llorenç de Morunys, follow the forest track that descends in an easterly direction, cross the cattle fence and continue descending gently to below a bend with a slope, which leads to the col of the canal del Prior. This canal, famous and funnel-shaped, is to the left of the col and has one of the best accesses to the Clot de Vilamala. Continue along the track climbing about 100 metres more and, on the left, a path opened for clearing is visible. Climb through the forest following the red paint marks; the path descends on the other slope. You reach below the balma Roja, wide and lofty, visible from very far away because of its red colour in the middle of the great wall of conglomerate. Continue along a narrow path that descends gently through the forest, making a few zigzags; further on you leave the right slope of the canal del Prior to enter the great Vilamala ravine, with magnificent panoramas. On reaching the second bend to the left, leave the path that descends to the Clot de Vilamala and go off to the right, levelling out in the middle of the thick shady slope. The narrow path is not worn and is a little overgrown. A few metres further on, on the right, there is another overgrown narrow path, which climbs to the balma de la Ventolana; this is located below the crag, which coincides with the head of a torrent.

Other details

The ground is full of “xerri”, that is, sheep droppings, so dry that when you walk over it a nearly unbreathable dust rises.

History

Known since ancient times in the area. Salvador Codina visited and surveyed it in February 2001.
