A rock shelter in Tavertet, next to the torrent del Gorgàs, at the feixa Fonda. It is 23 m wide by 6 m deep and is of little height.

Characteristics

Location

The cavity is found next to the torrent del Gorgàs, in its upper course, at the spot known as the feixa Fonda. This name is given to a relatively gentle stretch of the torrent del Gorgàs located between two stretches with waterfalls.

Although it is in the municipality of Tavertet, the easiest access is from Cantonigròs, from where we will take the track that leads to Tavertet. After about 2.5 km we will leave it to follow a secondary track that branches off to the left at a bend. About 250 m further on the track crosses the torrent del Gorgàs. Just after crossing, we will go up the torrent along its left hydrographic bank, through the middle of the forest, and after 80 m we will already see the mouth of the cave, located a few metres from the torrent bed.

Description

Morphology

Despite having been catalogued as a “cave”, it is in fact a rock shelter that is 23 m wide by 6 m deep and of little height, since we have to enter crouching.

It is found at the end of the feixa Fonda, next to the torrent and almost at the foot of a waterfall. At its eastern end there is a small hollow of 4.5 m.

Hydrology

The floor of the cavity is covered by silts carried by the torrent in its floods.

History

The cavity is mentioned in the book “Tavertet: El seu terme i els seus noms de lloc”, published in 1999 and authored by A. Borbonet and J. Sanglas. Besides mentioning its name, it adds no other data and qualifies the cavity as a “cave” although it is in fact a rock shelter.
