Description

Morphology

Mouth 8 x 1.40 m, almost closed by a dry-stone wall. Dusty and flat chamber 9 x 6 m with a low ceiling. Small rocky step where the ceiling gradually rises to 1.80 m. At the back, on the E side, a circular opening allows one to advance a few metres. Numerous angular blocks from ceiling collapse.

History

Known since ancient times. At one time it had been closed to be used as a livestock pen.

The first speleological reference is made by members of GE Pedraforca (Barcelona) who explored and surveyed it on 15-10-1970.

In 2010 a project to repair the access track was approved but was left half-finished. Some floor bars at the cave mouth and the sign at the start of the track have remained as evidence. This sign reads Cova de la Faringalla, slightly different from Ferigalla, the name used for it in 1970. We have not been able to find out the meaning of this toponym, but we suspect (without any etymological basis) that it could come from farigola.
