Cova de l'Alzina

Cova de l'Alzina

Petita cavitat al vessant septentrional de la Mola de Sant Llorenç

Matadepera • Vallès Occidental5m0

Small cavity on the northern slope of the Mola de Sant Llorenç, with a large holm oak in the inner crevice.

Characteristics

Location

It hangs on the crag above the rocky area through which the path from the Morral del Drac to the Mola runs.

The only way to reach the cave is to follow the path that enters the gully, wedged into the crag. On the left (in the direction of ascent) there is a rise that serves as a viewpoint over the canal de l'Abella. From this rise, very carefully and on all fours, one can follow a narrow ledge that leads to the cavity.

Description

Morphology

Small cave of short extent. One of its features, and the one that gives it its name, is the large holm oak that grows inside the crevice that crosses it vertically.

Progression

The only way to reach the cave is to follow the path that enters the gully, wedged into the crag. On the left (in the direction of ascent) there is a rise that serves as a viewpoint over the canal de l'Abella. From this rise, very carefully and on all fours, one can follow a narrow ledge that leads to the cavity.

Other details

No survey is available.

History

During the civil war, the cavity occasionally served as a refuge for men who wanted to avoid going to the front.

The difficulty of access, together with the good view it offers over the path, is what made the cave attractive to the refugees.
