History

This small shelter bears the name of Fra Pere Marginet (1370-1435), a monk of Poblet. He was accused of embezzlement of funds and was imprisoned, but in 1411 he fled and for two years devoted himself to banditry and a life of lust with two women, one of them a nun. After two years, repentant, he returned to Poblet and for a time led a hermitic life in this cave. Legend says that, during his stay in the cave, he suffered different temptations of Satan and of different legions of demons, which he resisted stoically. For his last years of exemplary life he was a much respected person and in 1611 Pope Paul V beatified him.
