Description
Morphology
Small entrance that leads to a drop of just over one metre where there is a bridge formed by two wedged blocks. Directly below the entrance, in a W direction, a pronounced ramp begins between blocks, and halfway along its course it meets laterally a very narrow passage that leads to level – 7. Again below the entrance and on the other side of the wedged blocks, a narrow laminar passage opens that connects with a wide chamber, with a low ceiling and divided into several parts by blocks. In a corner of the easternmost end, a narrow ramp passage leads to the point of maximum depth at – 9 metres.
Speleothems
Significant lithogenesis in the chamber.
History
Visited by Rafael Amat i Carreras on 30 March 1923 during his first campaign in the Garraf massif. For more than 60 years it remained unlocatable, despite its mention appearing in all the Garraf catalogues. Around 1986 or 1987, a small group of young people from Begues (embryonic group of the Begues Espeleo Club), rediscovered it without knowing which cave it was. They reported the find to Lluís Muntan, who located it and whose daughter Elena explored it partially, realising that it was the same cavity mentioned by Amat i Carreras. In 1989, the young people from Begues accompanied some members of GIRES, who explored and surveyed it, publishing the record in the Club's magazine, without giving any reference to its location and giving it the name Forat de Masferrer, making it an unknown cavity. With the references provided by Muntan, in March 2009, F.Rubinat and JM.Miñarro located it and visited it partially, confirming that it was the same cavity.
