Characteristics

Location

Following the path that goes from Can Puigmoltó towards Coll Sostrell, once the Serra de la Guàrdia has been passed, it levels out along the head of the Fondo de la Troneda. Before that, however, on the right a track branches off that descends towards the aforementioned hollow, and a few metres before a tighter bend, on the right of the track the entrance of a kind of trench is clearly visible, within which the pit is found.

Description

Morphology

Entry is made through a kind of trench, the product of an extraction of “sparry calcite”, and on its left side is the mouth of a shaft with a 14 metre vertical drop which in the last 5 metres takes on a bell-shaped form and whose floor is full of clastic products that plug the cavity.

Formed from two cavities with vertical polarity that joined along their own axis. It is possible that the upper part, which forms the trench, was a third cavity dismantled by epigean erosion and later completely disfigured by mining extraction.

Speleothems

Abundant reconstructive process.

History

Visited by Rafael Amat i Carreras on 14 August 1923, but he explains that the mouth is blocked by boulders and it seems they cannot explore it. He decides to name it Avenc Tapat.

The oldest exploration of which we have record is the one carried out by members of GES – CMB in February 1956.
