Characteristics

Location

From the road that goes from Ponts to Calaf, located near kilometre 4, at the crossroads that leads to Cabanabona and Guissona, we will follow this road and just after crossing the bridge over the Llobregos river, at 250 metres to the left we will head towards the Torre del Baró and the Mas d'en Bru, until we find the Llobregós river, which we will follow along its hydrographic left bank; soon the river forms a meander towards the N, surrounding a cultivated field, we must cross the field until we find the river again, from here on the S side, we find a line of hills, which we must climb to reach the last hill, the culminating point of the Costa del Pinell (456 metres) located to the NW of casa Garganter. This hill marks the boundary between the municipal terms of Oliola and Vilanova de l'Aguda, the cavity is located a few metres from this point.

Description

Morphology

By a steep but short slope we reach a straight gallery running W-E where the ceiling maintains an almost constant continuity. A few metres from the entrance a narrow shaft opens that communicates with the lower galleries, which are visible for about seven metres through a narrow fissure existing in the floor; finding at various points of the entrance gallery, various shafts that communicate with these galleries. Located in the first shaft described, we access a short sloping shaft that places us at a point where, once the floor is levelled, it places us at -6 metres, the point of maximum depth of the cavity.

Progression

The route continues climbing up and down over blocks, sometimes covered by a thick layer of gypsum dust, until after about 35 metres the narrowness of the gallery prevents progression.

History

The name of the cavity stems from the fact that during the Carlist wars, this cave served as a hiding place for a priest with the surname Benet, who lived in the neighbouring Torre del Bru. Explored by the SIE del CEA in 1971.
