Other details

Toponymy: At first it was named Botet de Rejunts, which was the closest to the difficult pronunciation of the local guide. But after consulting the Diccionari Etimològic by Joan Corominas, a collaborator from Esplugafreda mentions the word rejums. To complicate matters further, on the ICGC map it appears (at the 1:50000 scale) as rejuncs, but at the other scales it appears as rajums. The synonym Botet de Sant Cosme, we do not know its origin.

History

It was explored on 5 October 1975 by members of the SIE – CEA and the ERE – CEC, accompanied throughout the day, and at a very reasonable cost, by one of the last inhabitants of Sapeira. This local guide also took them to another botet, which was named d'Esplugafreda, and to a third which was named de Casa Rei, and that same day a first incursion of about 250 metres was made into this important cavity. (Information provided by Martí Romero, ERE – CEC).
