Monistrol de Calders • Moianès20m0

Large rock shelter in Monistrol de Calders (Moianès), 76 m wide, 22 m deep and 10 m maximum height.

Characteristics

Location

We will leave the village of Monistrol de Calders along the signposted track that leads to the farmhouse of la Coma; the path climbs parallel to the riera de la Golarda. On reaching the first fork we will continue along the right-hand track that leads to Moià; the left-hand track crosses the stream and leads to the farmhouse of la Coma.

We will continue along the ascending track for approximately 2 km, until we find a widening. Here we will leave the car to take a small path that descends to the bed of the riera de la Golarda. We find the rock shelter on the hydrographic left.

Description

Morphology

The rock shelter, very spectacular, has dimensions of 76 m wide by 22 m deep and a maximum height of 10 m.

The floor is covered with large blocks from the clastic process.

Hydrology

Inside it we find a pool that collects drips coming from the ceiling.

The western sector of the rock shelter is partially flooded by the water level of the stream which, in periods of higher flow, transports flood materials into its interior, trunks and branches.

History

Known since remote times. Visited in March 2019 by members of the GE Badalona, while carrying out the cataloguing work.
