Large rock shelter on the Sanana stream, in Vacarisses, opened beneath a waterfall, 35 m long, 11 m deep and 3.50 m maximum height, excavated in conglomerate.

Characteristics

Location

We will set out from the village of Vacarisses along the BV-1212 road, towards Monistrol de Montserrat; on reaching km 4, we will take a turn-off to the right that leads to the la Farinera residential area. We will take the N direction, continue along carrer Montseny to the end and here we will leave the car to continue on foot along a dirt track, closed with a chain. The track climbs alongside the Sanana stream; after about 1500 m we will find a widening of the track, just here we will have to descend to the stream bed and we will soon find the rock shelter.

Description

Morphology

It is a rock shelter opened beneath a waterfall of the Sanana stream, it has measurements of 35 m in length by 11 m in depth and a maximum height of 3.50 m. The cavity is excavated in conglomerate and inside it remains of dry stone walls are preserved.

History

Based on documentation from the year 1851, David Hernàndez Hernàndez carries out the search for the cavity, finding it and publishing it, with a careful description, on his interesting blog: Amagatalls de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac (Post of 1-4-2016), to which we refer you.
