Characteristics

Location

From the Alzina del Sal·lari, continue on foot on a steep climb up to the coll de les Tres Creus. From here we will take the path, heading West, that leads to the font de la Pola; when we reach a point where the path makes a sharp bend beside a rocky monolith, we will find, below, the balma de la Porquerissa. If we continue along the path we will pass the font de la Pola, and continuing along the trail we will find the roques del Castell de Tanca; just to the right of the path we will find the balma del Quarto de Reixa.

History

On the ICGC map it appears referenced as Cova del Tinet, but currently this name is the pseudonym of the Cova del Racó Gran de Matarrodona. Although all of this has an explanation: during the years 1920-1940 a whole group of nature lovers (led by Valentí Rossinyol, alias Tinet) “discovered” this place and made it their own to spend holidays and vacations. They fitted out the rock shelter as a refuge and called it Quarto de Reixa (a name given to the room that was next to the entrance door of a house). They were also the ones who fixed up the font de la Pola and other places in the sector. But after some years, the place was very well known by people who went hiking in the area. Until the Quarto de Reixa began to receive acts of vandalism. Faced with this situation, Tinet decided to change “second residence” and repeated the same operation but with the Cova del Racó Gran de Matarrodona and it is for this reason that this one is known as Cova del Tinet, but not the Quarto de Reixa.
