Characteristics

Location

From the Alzina del Sal·lari we will climb up to Coll de Boix and from there we will follow the path towards the Era dels Enrics. Halfway along, on the right, a small path leads to the balma and spring of the Debanadors. About 150 metres further on, on the right and at the foot of a rocky outcrop, is this shelter.

It can also be reached from Coll d'Estenalles, la Mata, Coll de Garganta and the ruins of the Coma d'en Vila. Here one must take a small path on the right that leads under the shelter, hanging on the crag and with a somewhat delicate access.

Description

Morphology

Large shelter with a mouth about 15 metres wide and just over one metre high (maximum height 1.80 m), penetrating into a conduit of the same dimensions which after 9 metres is closed by a stratum of sandstone. At two ends of the chamber there are respective conduits with a very low ceiling which after little more than a metre become impenetrable.

History

This shelter must have been known to hikers and the people of the area since time immemorial. The only speleological reference we had is the survey (unpublished until now) made in September 1970 by members of the GES – CMB during the work carried out for the third volume of the “Catálogo espeleológico de la provincia de Barcelona”, which was never published.

Visited by members of the GE Badalona in April 2021 while carrying out cataloguing work. A recent inscription names it Balma de la Pepa.
