Description

Morphology

Balma 23 m wide and of variable height. On the left there is a small built space of 7 square m that serves as a shelter.

Hydrology

At the back of the balma there is a small built basin and a spring (Font del Rossinyol), fed by the seepages at the back but which is almost always dry.

History

In the Middle Ages this balma was known as the Espluga dels Venedors, but over time it changed its name until the current toponym. It has always served as a shelter, a function for which it is well prepared as it has a spring inside. In addition, a small part is built.

In 1590 the balma became popular as it was the scene of a murder. On 9 November of that year an oxherd from Mata-rodona found a man dead from two heavy blows to the skull and two stab wounds to the neck.

The body could be identified because, paradoxically, the corpse had in a pocket a certificate of good health issued by the rectory of Matadepera. Thus it was discovered that it was a pilgrim who was returning from visiting the tomb of the Apostle in Santiago de Compostela and had had the misfortune of being assaulted and killed by some bandits when he was only an hour away from reaching his home.

The witnesses of the time provide a curious detail of how the procedure for identifying a corpse began. The veguer, who had arrived from Manresa, asked the dead man three times: "Home de bé, qui t'ha mort?". After the evident silence, the rest of the proceedings began, which no longer required the participation of the deceased.
