Characteristics

Location

At approximately km 1068 of the N 340, we take the Camí del Llop, which climbs back up towards the Montsià. After passing the Patacó farm buildings, on the left, the path descends to cross the barranc del Llop. Just before the streambed we take a path on the left and follow it to a large esplanade with a lovely farmhouse where we can leave the car (better to go up in a high-clearance car).

We are at the Maset de Paletes, in the heart of the Racó dels Ferranes (Ferreries according to the ICC and also known as les Carabassades).

Description

Morphology

A modest rock shelter about 15 m long by 2 m high, but which penetrates only some 3 m into the rock.

Progression

We follow the path for a few metres but soon come upon a fenced property that bars our way. We try to skirt it on the right, crossing a small gully, and we continue climbing up towards the lost properties of the upper part that lead up towards the ridge. This must be climbed between the malea and wild boar trails. At around elevation 315 we must turn off to the left and find a small clay pit. A little further on is the Cova petita de Ferranes and above it, at the base of a cliff, is the Cova gran de Ferranes, and on the right one can reach the upper part of the cliff where the rock shelter is found.

Other details

No survey is available.
