Characteristics

Location

Small cave in the cingles del Buco (Montsià).

Roughly at km 1067.5 of the N-340 and next to a small roadside rest area, on the mountain side, a path climbs perpendicularly: the camí de les Ferreries, which we follow until we meet another path that crosses it, the camí dels Bandolers. We continue to the left along the path until a junction, before the barranc del Bassiol, where we leave the car in a lay-by.

We follow the camí dels Bandolers to the left, crossing the barranc del Bassiol, and a few metres on a sign indicates the path that climbs back up towards the mountain, following the left flank of the ravine. Soon the path ends and becomes a footpath. At this point a small stone cairn marks a footpath to the right that crosses the barranc del Bassiol again, and climbs up among the lost terraces of the caseta de Vilero.

We climb up through a pine grove to the ridge, where by good footpath we must follow the ridge on a gentle slope.

Almost reaching the sender de les Faixes, a junction between the Font del Bassiol and Cova Hedra, in the middle of a fairly dense pine wood and on the left, some tiles indicate the location of the remains of the caseta del Buco. A few metres further on, at the edge of a large pine, we must take a small path to the right, leaving the path that continues climbing. Along a flat terrace overrun with pines we reach a pronounced sloping slab of rock, where a large hollow was opened to collect rainwater using the slope of the slab. A small path that goes into the bottom of the ravine leads to the base of the crag. Further on, at the base of some small crags and in the middle of some narrow lost terraces, almost hanging over the void of the deep ravine, is the Cova del Buco.
