From the village of Tivissa a track heads SW towards the mas de Janó and the coll de Maula. Shortly before reaching the latter, at the head of the barranc de Pena-roja, a path follows the edge of the ravine and leads in about 450 metres to the ruins of the mas de Pena-roja.

According to the data we have from the first (and perhaps only) explorers, the pit would be about 500 metres from the mas, on the other side of the ravine and beside some ploughed fields. After 60 years there is now neither mas nor ploughed fields and it is difficult to pinpoint its location, although it must lie on the S slope of the tossal de la Pena-roja and apparently at the contact between the Jurassic and Triassic limestones.

The coordinates correspond to the ruins of the mas de Pena-roja, the only reference point and pending the relocation of the cavity.
