A 20-metre-deep pit at Can Rafel, Cervelló, discovered and explored by the ERE - CEC on 21 February 1960.

Characteristics

Location

From Corbera de Llobregat you must go up to the Can Rafel hotel. Before starting the final straight that leads to the hotel, we find a turn-off to the left just before the golf course parking area. We follow this paved track until reaching the first left-hand bend, where we must continue straight on along a path. After about a hundred metres this path crosses the track and continues as a footpath for 220 metres, where we will find a signpost for the footpath and 2 metres further on, to the left and right beside the footpath, the entrance to the cavity.

Description

Morphology

A steeply sloping ramp followed by a narrow passage that leads to a room of regular dimensions, with a step between blocks at the back. Through a narrow passage one descends a small pit of -5 metres. A narrow sloping gallery follows, where we find a new step, the gallery being blocked by blocks. At the opposite end of the upper zone, we find a short gallery with a low ceiling through which one reaches an elongated hollow, in the middle of which two pits originate between blocks; at the bottom of one of them is the maximum depth of the cavity.

History

Discovered and explored by members of the ERE - CEC (V. Cusó, J. Llopis, R. Ramos, J. Sabartés and others) on 21 February 1960. The survey made during this first exploration had remained unpublished until now in the ERE archive. We update the record with its inclusion and correcting history data.
