Vilaverd • Conca de Barberà24m15m

A 15 m deep pit in the Penya Roja area (Vilaverd), with a first 6 m shaft, a 10 m ramp and a final small 4 m pit among boulders.

Characteristics

Location

From la Riba along the TV-7044 road towards Farena, after km 3, a small parking area appears on the left below the youth camp. From this point, a path crosses the Brugent river, leaving the Moli de la Font Gran on the right; we leave a path on the right towards la Riba (signpost) and, following the main path, we find another junction: we continue to the right, passing the avenc dels Tres Grans and del Xalau. Then we find a new junction which we follow along the left-hand path towards the Penya Roja (signpost Penya Roja-Cingle dels Pins Alts). We find a rope on a small step, we follow the path for a few metres crossing two short steps, then we turn right among the weeds in a NE direction looking for the cliff, we scramble down some steps covered by weeds and many arítjols, we find the entrance of the avenc Petit dels Talpets, about 20 metres to the N towards the cliff opposite, climbing over some boulders the entrance of the avenc dels Talpets appears, and next to the cliff we find the other two entrances.

Description

Morphology

A first 6 metre shaft reaches the top of a descending ramp 10 metres long, at the end of which a new small pit among boulders of 4 metres opens where the cavity ends. In front of the first shaft, next to the cliff, there are two more entrances: the left-hand entrance of 45x50 mm is a shaft that drops a few metres from the main shaft; the right-hand entrance of 40x60 mm gives access to a ramp and a small step, which allows descending without equipment and leads to the base of the first shaft.

Progression

The right-hand entrance of 40x60 mm gives access to a ramp and a small step, which allows descending without equipment and leads to the base of the first shaft.

Other details

It is one more of the many interstitial-type cavities found in the area.

History

The only news there was of this pit is the one given by the members of the SES-Talps (Sabadell) who explored it around 1968 or 1969.

On 21-3-2026 Juan Luis Benitez Rosado and Josep Mª Plana Roca (Bin), GIEM-CEM Montblanc, located and explored it again.
