Characteristics

Location

From Alcover, take the TV-7041 road towards Mont-ral; before reaching km 8, a track leaves to the right towards an abandoned building; skirting this building on the right, the track continues in poor condition, passes a pool known as Font de l'Om and, after a sharp bend, leads to an esplanade above the Mas de Gomis quarry.

Continuing in a SE direction, at the end of the quarry and climbing up towards the wood, which is very overgrown with vegetation, skirting the cliff, one finds a vertex — a concrete beam — and at 232 mts distance from the esplanade the mouth of the pit appears among the weeds and rocky outcrops near the cliff.

Description

Morphology

A -7 metre shaft drops into the upper part of an accumulation of debris, which descends at a 45º slope down to -14 metres.

Speleothems

At the end of the debris ramp the floor is covered with calcite deposits.

Hydrology

On the floor covered with calcite deposits there are signs of water accumulation normally.

Progression

Back at the base of the shaft, on the opposite side, the gallery continues uniformly with a gentle slope for some 12 metres, then turns sharply towards the S and ends closed after 4 metres, beneath the mouth of a new and narrower vertical shaft from the surface.

History

The first record of the cavity is from the exploration carried out on 1 November 1975 by the SIEP of the Centre Excursionista Poblet.

No further record of the cavity appears until February 2026, when Juan Luis Benitez Rosado, Josep Lluis Almiñana Perez Alcon and Albert Tarragó Torns, of the GIEM-CEM, rediscover it, having to open a path to gain access.
