Avenc del Racó Travesser

Petit avenc de 8 m. de fondària a Tivissa

Tivissa • Ribera d'Ebre25m8m

Small 8 m deep pit in Tivissa, with a 5 m shaft and a 12 m chamber full of clastic materials and a large stalagmite.

Characteristics

Location

We do not know the exact location of the cavity. Based on the toponym, it should be in the area where the name appears on the ICGC map: Racó Travesser, but we cannot pinpoint its situation.

Prospecting in the area is very difficult due to the abundant vegetation covering the relief, and transit is only possible along the most usual paths. Furthermore, most farmhouses are abandoned, and those that are preserved have largely been bought or rented by outsiders who do not know the territory.

The coordinates only indicate the area where the cavity should be found.

Description

Morphology

A 5 metre shaft, subdivided in its upper part by a rock bridge, connects the exterior with a single chamber 12 metres long, from which three small parallel conduits emerge that, between blocks, allow descent to the point of maximum depth.

Speleothems

This chamber is full of clastic materials, and on the SW side a large stalagmite develops.

History

According to old records of the GES – CMB, N. Llopis Lladó explored around 1934 or 1935 a series of cavities in this southern area of the municipality of Tivissa. Of all of them, only the one he called Avenc del Racó de Reboig (later catalogued as Avenc del Racó d'en Juny) has been located. The location of all these cavities is very imprecise and in some cases nonexistent. Most references speak of Mas Pellisé, but neither in the old cartography nor in the most modern do we find references to this farmhouse.
